We traveled south from Jerusalem which is approximately 2,500 feet above sea level to an area near Jerico on the Jordan River which is about 1,312 feet below sea level. This area of the Jordan River is in the West Bank and had been part of Jordan before the war. This is the traditional baptism site of Jesus for Christian pilgrimages. The overwhelming biblical, archaeological, and historical evidence has led many religious leaders throughout the world to recognize this site as the authentic site of Jesus' baptism. This spot on the Jordan River is just five miles north of the Dead Sea and near Jerico. The county of Jordan is on the opposite side of the river. For more information visit this web site.
